Why comparable is stronger than similar

Similarity can be visual or linguistic; comparability needs shared conditions.

The concept

Similarity can be visual or linguistic; comparability needs shared conditions. A useful explanation separates the object, the claim and the evidence. We write for readers who want the vocabulary to question a document without needing a product ranking.

A distinction worth keeping

Matching units or matching cases do not establish equivalent methods. Use the term to ask a more precise question of the document. Identify who is speaking, which object is being described and what observation would be needed to go further. A clearer definition should reduce ambiguity without pretending to resolve the underlying facts.

Put it into practice

Ask what must be held constant before putting two values together. Keep the question, the source reference and the remaining limitation together so that a later reader can reconstruct the reasoning. This article is an editorial documentation exercise; it does not report a physical device test or assign a product score.
